Ahsaas Channa
Verified Macro Creator — Web Series & FilmActor — Hindi films, television and web series
She spent the first four years of her career being cast as a boy. Two decades on, Ahsaas Channa is one of the faces of India's web-series generation — Girls Hostel, Kota Factory, Hostel Daze, Half CA — with 3.6M followers on Instagram.
About Ahsaas Channa
For the first four years of her career, Ahsaas Channa was cast as a boy. She was five when she debuted in Vaastu Shastra in 2004, playing Rohan — Sushmita Sen's son. Two years later she was Ranveer in Aryan. In 2007 she was Ashu in My Friend Ganesha, a film an entire generation of Indian children watched on loop. It was only in 2008, in the horror film Phoonk, that she was finally cast as a girl. The industry was not unfamiliar territory. Channa was born in Mumbai on 5 August 1999 into a family from Jalandhar that already worked in film: her father, Iqbal Singh Channa, produces Punjabi cinema, and her mother, Kulbir Kaur Badesron, is a television actress. She has an elder sister, Mehak. Alongside the shoots she finished a degree in psychology at Mumbai University. Television carried her through her teens — Kasamh Se as a young Ganga Walia, Gumrah, Savdhaan India, Madhubala, then Ashokasundari in Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, and episodic work on Crime Patrol Satark, MTV Big F and CID. It was steady, unglamorous work, and it might have been the whole story. Then the Indian web series happened, and it turned out she was exactly the right age for it. In 2018 she played Richa in Girls Hostel. In 2019 came the two roles she is still best known for: Shivangi in TVF's Kota Factory — the black-and-white series about coaching-class students that became a genuine cultural artefact — and Akanksha in Hostel Daze, which earned her Filmfare OTT nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy in both 2020 and 2023. The Interns, Clutch, Jugaadistan and Modern Love Mumbai followed. She joined Mismatched as Vinny for its second and third seasons, and led Half CA as Archie from 2023 to 2025, playing a chartered accountancy aspirant in a show aimed squarely at the students who see themselves in it. In 2025 she made her Netflix film debut as Twinkle Handa in Greater Kalesh. O Saathi Re is currently filming. There have been music videos too — a Himesh Reshammiya track in 2006, when she was seven, and Darshan Raval's 'O Beliya' in 2024 — and a 2021 short film, Transistor. The audience numbers say something about how her generation of actors works. On Instagram, where she posts as @ahsaassy_ with the bio 'Swaagat hai', she has 3.6 million followers across 2,567 posts. On X, where she has had an account since April 2012, she has about 7,100. Almost her entire public life sits on one platform, and the roles are cast from it. Twenty-two years after a five-year-old was asked to play somebody's son, she is still working — and still, mostly, playing the student in the room who says the thing everyone else is thinking. Career Journey
A debut, playing a boy
At five she made her film debut in Vaastu Shastra as Rohan, Sushmita Sen's son. She was cast as a boy again in Aryan (2006) as Ranveer and in My Friend Ganesha (2007) as Ashu — three of her first four roles.
First role as a girl, then a decade of television
The horror film Phoonk gave her the first part written for a girl. Television followed through her teens — Kasamh Se, Gumrah, Savdhaan India, Madhubala, Ashokasundari in Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, and episodic roles in Crime Patrol Satark, MTV Big F and CID.
Kota Factory and Hostel Daze
A year after Girls Hostel, she played Shivangi in TVF's Kota Factory and Akanksha in Hostel Daze — the two roles that made her a face of the Indian web series boom. Hostel Daze brought her Filmfare OTT nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy in 2020 and again in 2023.
Mismatched, Half CA and a Netflix film
She joined Mismatched as Vinny for seasons two and three, appeared in Modern Love Mumbai and Jugaadistan, and led Half CA as Archie from 2023 to 2025. In 2025 she made her Netflix film debut as Twinkle Handa in Greater Kalesh.
