Bobbi Brown (born April 14, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois) is an American professional makeup artist, author and the founder of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. She created ten natural-shade lipsticks that, according to Entrepreneur, "revolutionized the beauty industry", has written ten books about beauty and wellness, and in 2025 was listed by Time as one of the world's 100 most influential people. Born to a Jewish family, Brown graduated from New Trier High School and from Emerson College in Boston with a degree in theatrical makeup and photography. In 1980 she moved to New York City to work as a professional makeup artist and became known for a style of moderate, natural tones that contrasted starkly with the bright colors then common. In 1990 she worked with a chemist to develop ten natural lipstick shades, and in 1991 she and her husband partnered with another couple to launch Bobbi Brown Essentials, which debuted at Bergdorf Goodman. She expected to sell 100 in a month and instead sold 100 in a day; the following year she released yellow-toned foundation sticks. After leaving Bobbi Brown Cosmetics in 2016 she launched Beauty Evolution, LLC, became certified as a health coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, started a line of beauty-inspired wellness products and, in 2020, launched a second beauty line, Jones Road. She curates an editorial website, and she and her husband Steven Plofker redesigned The George, a boutique hotel in Montclair, New Jersey.
