Jerral Wayne "Jerry" Jones Sr. (born October 13, 1942, in Los Angeles) is an American billionaire businessman, the owner, president and general manager of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, which he bought from Bum Bright in 1989. The family moved back to North Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1945, where his parents, John "Pat" and Arminta Jones, owned two branches of Pat's Super Market. Jones was a running back at North Little Rock High School, graduating in 1960, after which his parents moved to Springfield, Missouri, where his father became president and chairman of Modern Security Life Insurance Co.; its assets grew from about $440,000 in its first statement in 1961 to more than $6.2 million in 1965. At the University of Arkansas Jones belonged to Kappa Sigma and was co-captain of the 1964 national championship football team, playing offensive line for coach Frank Broyles alongside Jimmy Johnson, whom he later hired as his first head coach after buying the Cowboys. After graduating he became an executive vice president at the family insurance company. The family built the 5,500-acre Buena Vista Ranch in the Missouri Ozarks, and in 1971, after selling the insurance company, carved out 400 acres to start Buena Vista Animal Paradise, a tourist attraction now known as Wild Animal Safari in Strafford, Missouri.
