About Kevin Plank: Founder of Under Armour
Kevin Audette Plank (born August 13, 1972) is an American billionaire businessman and philanthropist, the founder and executive chairman of Under Armour, a sportswear, footwear and accessories manufacturer based in Baltimore, Maryland. He was CEO from the company's founding in 1996 until 2020 and returned as CEO in April 2024. As of April 2026 his net worth was estimated at US$1.1 billion. Plank grew up in Kensington, Maryland, the youngest of five brothers born to William Plank, a prominent Maryland land developer, and Jayne Harper Plank, a former mayor of Kensington who directed the Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs at the State Department under Ronald Reagan. He played youth football with the Maplewood Sports Association, and a Maplewood team has appeared in Under Armour commercials. He left Georgetown Preparatory School over poor academic performance and behavior, graduated from St. John's College High School in 1990, and played a year at Fork Union Military Academy trying to attract NCAA Division I recruiters. Not recruited by the top programs, he walked on at the University of Maryland, College Park, and graduated in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in business administration; Under Armour was founded the same year.
