About Magic Johnson: Founder of Magic Johnson Enterprises
Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr. (born August 14, 1959) is an American businessman and former professional basketball player, widely regarded as the greatest point guard of all time. He spent his entire NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, who selected him first overall in the 1979 draft after he won a national championship with Michigan State, and led them to five NBA titles in the "Showtime" era. He won three NBA MVP awards and three Finals MVP awards, and co-captained the 1992 "Dream Team" to Olympic gold in Barcelona. He retired abruptly in 1991 after announcing that he had contracted HIV. Johnson's business career grew out of a mentorship with Lakers owner Jerry Buss, whom he called his "second father". Buss introduced him to important Los Angeles business contacts, showed him how the Lakers organization was run, and in 1994 sold him a stake in the team. Johnson credits Buss with giving him the business knowledge that enabled him to become part owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Through Magic Johnson Enterprises he has been active as a businessman since leaving the NBA, and he lives in Beverly Hills. Johnson is a Christian and has said his faith is "the most important thing" in his life. Sources: English Wikipedia (Magic Johnson, accessed September 2026).
