About Mark Cuban: Entrepreneur and Former Owner of the Dallas Mavericks
Mark Cuban (born July 31, 1958, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American businessman, entrepreneur and television personality, the former principal owner and current minority owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks and co-owner of 2929 Entertainment. From 2012 to 2025 he was one of the "sharks" on ABC's reality series Shark Tank. Cuban grew up in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mt. Lebanon, the son of an automobile upholsterer, Norton Cuban, and Shirley, whom he described as someone with "a different job or different career goal every other week". He was in ventures from a young age, selling garbage bags and later running newspapers during a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette workers' strike. After graduating from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University Bloomington he built a diverse business career, founding MicroSolutions and Broadcast.com and selling both at substantial profits. The sale of Broadcast.com to Yahoo! made him a billionaire; the service was discontinued in 2002. His investments span technology, media, sports and entertainment. He became a prominent NBA figure through the Mavericks, who won the 2011 NBA championship under his ownership, and through disputes with the league's management. Cuban is also involved in philanthropy, political commentary and reality television. As of January 2026, Forbes estimated his net worth at US$6 billion.
