About Martha Stewart: Founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia

Martha Helen Stewart (born Martha Helen Kostyra on August 3, 1941, in Jersey City, New Jersey) is an American retail businesswoman, writer and television personality. As founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, focused on home and hospitality, she built a business across publishing, broadcasting, merchandising and e-commerce. She has written numerous bestselling books, was publisher of Martha Stewart Living magazine, and hosted two syndicated television programs: Martha Stewart Living, which ran from 1993 to 2004, and The Martha Stewart Show, from 2005 to 2012. Stewart was convicted of felony charges related to the ImClone stock trading case and served five months in federal prison for fraud, released in March 2005. There was speculation that the episode would end her media empire, but she began a comeback campaign in 2005 and the company returned to profitability in 2006. She rejoined the board of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in 2011 and became chairwoman of her namesake company again in 2012. Sequential Brands acquired the company in 2015, and in April 2019 agreed to sell it, including the Emeril brand, to Marquee Brands for $175 million plus benchmarked additional payments. In 2024, at age 81, Stewart became the oldest woman to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and she was the subject of a Netflix documentary, Martha, directed by R. J. Cutler. Sources: English Wikipedia (Martha Stewart, accessed September 2026).
