About Meg Whitman: Former CEO of eBay and Hewlett-Packard
Margaret Cushing "Meg" Whitman (born August 4, 1956) is an American business executive, diplomat and politician who served as the United States ambassador to Kenya from July 2022 to November 2024 under President Joe Biden. In business she is best known as the former CEO of eBay and of Hewlett-Packard. Until 2025, when she said she was a registered Democrat, Whitman was a member of the Republican Party. She ran for governor of California in 2010 and lost to former governor Jerry Brown, 54% to 41%. The fifth-wealthiest woman in California, with a net worth of $1.3 billion in 2010, she spent more of her own money on a single election than any other political candidate in American history at the time: $144 million of her own fortune (the campaign spent $178.5 million in total), a record surpassed only by Michael Bloomberg in the 2020 presidential election. She was a senior presidential campaign official for Republican Mitt Romney in 2008 and 2012, though she supported Democrats Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020.
