About Michael Dell: Founder and CEO of Dell Technologies

Michael Saul Dell (born February 23, 1965, in Houston, Texas) is an American billionaire businessman and investor, the founder, chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies, one of the world's largest technology infrastructure companies, of which he owns a 40% stake in 2026. He was born to a Jewish family; his father, Alexander Dell, was an orthodontist and his mother, Lorraine, a stockbroker. Dell showed an entrepreneurial streak early. At eight he applied to take a high school equivalency exam in a bid to enter business early, and in his early teens he invested his part-time earnings in stocks and precious metals. At Memorial High School in Houston he sold subscriptions to the Houston Post in the summers, learning to target the people most likely to subscribe rather than making cold calls. To please his parents, who wanted him to be a doctor, he enrolled in pre-med at the University of Texas in 1983. His business career took him to the top of the personal-computer industry. In January 2013 it was announced that he had bid to take Dell Inc. private for $24.4 billion, the biggest management buyout since the Great Recession; the company officially went private in October 2013 and went public again in December 2018. In May 2026 he became a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. In September 2026 the Bloomberg Billionaires Index listed him as the fifth-wealthiest person in the world with a net worth of about US$245 billion, while Forbes estimated it at $258.4 billion.
