About Prajakta Koli
Prajakta Koli started out fetching things in a radio station. She was an intern, then an RJ, at Fever 104 FM in Mumbai — a Bachelor of Mass Media from V. G. Vaze College in Mulund, a Thane upbringing, a restaurateur father, and no obvious route into the film industry. So in 2015 she started a YouTube channel instead and called it MostlySane, and began playing every member of an average Indian family: the mother who cannot find anything in her own kitchen, the relative with opinions, the friend who is definitely not fine. Eleven years later that channel has 7.24 million subscribers and about 1,400 videos, and it has taken her to some genuinely strange rooms. In April 2019, YouTube's then-CEO Susan Wojcicki chose Koli's 'Real Talk Tuesday' series for her first-ever interview with an Indian YouTuber. In 2020 she sat down with Michelle Obama — alongside creators Liza Koshy and Thembe Mahlaba — to talk to girls in different countries about their education, for a Creators for Change special; the documentary from that programme won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Daytime Non-Fiction Special in 2021. She appeared in Dear Class of 2020, the virtual graduation headlined by Barack and Michelle Obama. In January 2022 the United Nations Development Programme made her UNDP India's first Youth Climate Champion, and in 2024 NDTV named her Climate Influencer of the Year. She has been to Davos, to the UN as a Goalkeepers delegate, and onto TED's Countdown climate campaign alongside Al Gore and Priyanka Chopra. The acting career runs in parallel and is not a side project. She led Netflix's Mismatched as Dimple Ahuja across three seasons from 2020, played Ginny Saini in Dharma's Jugjugg Jeeyo (2022) — which earned her a Filmfare nomination for Best Female Debut — and appeared in Anu Menon's mystery Neeyat (2023) opposite Vidya Balan. In 2025 she was Rumi in Prime Video's horror series Andhera and Namrata Gehlot in Netflix's Single Papa, with a cameo in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. Her Marathi film debut, Krantijyoti Vidyalay Marathi Madhyam, followed in 2026. There is also a Zee Theatre teleplay, an Audible Hindi adaptation of Marvel's Wastelanders where she voices Ash Barton, and four singles — including 'Shameless', a 2017 rap with Raftaar written out of her own experience of being body-shamed, which grew out of her #iPledgeToBeMe mental health campaign from World Mental Health Day 2016. Then she wrote a novel. Too Good To Be True, her debut romance, was published by HarperCollins India in January 2025, went to the top of the Amazon India bestseller chart, and sold 150,000 copies in its first month — enough for HarperCollins to put out a special hardback edition in February 2026. She toured it like a musician, city by city, and put the footage on the same YouTube channel where she once played her own aunty. In July 2025 she became the first Indian content creator named to TIME's TIME100 Creators list. Her pinned tweet about it is still up. The numbers, read on 15 August 2026: 8.7 million followers on Instagram across 5,883 posts, 7.24 million YouTube subscribers, and 386,900 followers on X, where she has been posting since March 2011. Her bio on all three says roughly the same thing — 'Creator | Actor | New Author' — and lists one working email, which is about as unpretentious as a 16-million-follower operation gets. She married Vrishank Khanal, a lawyer and her partner of thirteen years, in Karjat on 25 February 2025.
