She was the first woman elected to Facebook's board of directors and, as head of the company's advertising business, has been credited with making it profitable. A Harvard graduate, she served as a research assistant to Lawrence Summers at the World Bank and later as his chief of staff when he became Bill Clinton's Treasury Secretary. In 2022 she announced she would step down from Meta in the fall but remain on its board, and in January 2024 said she would not stand for re-election to the board in May 2024. As of March 2026 she has joined the board of the British AI startup Nscale. Sources: English Wikipedia (Sheryl Sandberg, accessed September 2026).
