About Travis Kalanick: Co-founder of Uber and CEO of Atoms

Travis Cordell Kalanick (born August 6, 1976) is an American businessman best known as the co-founder and former CEO of Uber. Earlier he worked for Scour, a peer-to-peer file-sharing company, and co-founded Red Swoosh, a peer-to-peer content delivery network sold to Akamai Technologies in 2007. He is currently CEO of Atoms, which owns CloudKitchens, an operator of ghost kitchens. Kalanick grew up in the Northridge neighborhood of Los Angeles. His mother, Bonnie Horowitz Kalanick, came from a family of Viennese Jews and worked in retail advertising for the Los Angeles Daily News; his father, Donald Kalanick, from a Slovak-Austrian Catholic family, was a civil engineer for the city of Los Angeles. In middle and high school he was known as competitive and driven to win. He was Uber's CEO from 2010 to 2017 and resigned in 2017 after mounting pressure over allegations that he ignored reports of sexual harassment at the company. He kept his board seat until December 31, 2019 and, before resigning, sold about 90% of his Uber shares for $2.5 billion. In 2018 he started the 10100 Fund to invest in e-commerce, innovation and real estate in emerging markets such as China and India, and announced an investment of nearly $150 million in the real-estate redevelopment company City Storage Systems, since renamed Atoms, and named himself CEO. Forbes ranks him 374th on the Forbes 400 with a net worth of $3.6 billion. Sources: English Wikipedia (Travis Kalanick, accessed September 2026).
