Before Sharvari Wagh was ever cast in anything, she spent three years carrying other people's shot lists. From 2015 she worked as an assistant director — on Luv Ranjan's Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, and on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani. Munjya, a comedy horror built on the Maharashtrian folktale of the munjya and set inside Maddock's horror-comedy universe, became a sleeper hit and her breakout. She then entered the YRF Spy Universe in Alpha alongside Alia Bhatt, the two of them playing genetically enhanced super-soldiers who go rogue. Critics largely agreed she rose above an underwritten role, and praised her in the action sequences, though the film itself underperformed.
