About Bajaj Auto

Bajaj Auto did not begin by making anything. It began, on 29 November 1945, as M/s Bajaj Trading Corporation Private Limited — a business that imported two- and three-wheelers and sold them in India. Its founder, Jamnalal Bajaj, had died three years earlier; he was a merchant, industrialist and a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, who called him his fifth son. Manufacturing came later, and then it never stopped. For decades the company was synonymous with one product: the Chetak scooter, built under licence from Piaggio, which had waiting lists measured in years and became the default first vehicle of the Indian middle class. When the market moved to motorcycles, Bajaj moved with it — a technical assistance agreement with Kawasaki in 1984, and then the Pulsar, which did for Indian motorcycling roughly what the Chetak had done for scooters. Today Bajaj Auto is the third-largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world and the second-largest in India, and the largest three-wheeler manufacturer anywhere. In December 2020 it crossed a market capitalisation of ₹1 trillion, making it the most valuable two-wheeler company in the world. FY2026 was its best year. Standalone revenue reached a record ₹58,732 crore with profit after tax of ₹9,825 crore; consolidated profit after tax rose 47% to ₹10,744 crore. Total volumes crossed five million units for the first time, up 10% and past the previous peak set in FY2019. Exports passed two million units — the strongest annual performance since FY2022 — with export revenue at an all-time high, driven largely by the Pulsar range. The most striking number is the one nobody would have predicted a decade ago. The Chetak, revived as an electric scooter, had its best quarter yet: retail volumes crossed 100,000 in a single quarter, with more than 50,000 in March alone, taking its share of India's electric two-wheeler market to about 23%. Cumulative Chetak EV sales have passed 727,000 units. A brand that defined Indian scootering in the 1970s is now doing it again on batteries. The company has also built an unusual set of relationships abroad. In 2007 it bought 14.5% of the Austrian manufacturer KTM through its Dutch subsidiary, raising that to roughly 48% by 2020; its FY2026 annual report records the KTM acquisition alongside the appointment of Rakesh Sharma as Joint Managing Director. Since 2017 it has partnered with Triumph Motorcycles to build mid-capacity machines. It invested about ₹57 crore in the shared-mobility startup Yulu in 2019. Bajaj Auto has continued to operate in Russia through the period following the invasion of Ukraine, when many international manufacturers withdrew. Manufacturing runs from Chakan, Waluj and Pantnagar, with the original Akurdi plant in Pune now home to the research centre the company calls 'Ahead'. In May 2008 the old Bajaj Auto Limited was split into three listed entities — Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Auto and Bajaj Holdings & Investment — and the vehicle business has been run since by Rajiv Bajaj, its Chairman, Managing Director and Chief Executive. Our Services

Motorcycles — Pulsar, Dominar and the 125cc range

The Pulsar is the range that changed Indian motorcycling and still drives both domestic volume and export revenue; the Dominar 400 sits at the top of the sports-touring line. Bajaj is the second-largest motorcycle manufacturer in India and third-largest in the world.

Chetak — Electric Two-Wheelers

The Chetak name, once a licence-built Piaggio scooter with multi-year waiting lists, is now Bajaj's electric brand. In FY2026 it crossed 100,000 retail units in a single quarter and took roughly 23% of India's electric two-wheeler market, with cumulative sales past 727,000 units.

Commuter Motorcycles — Platina and CT

The high-mileage commuter segment, where Bajaj competes on running cost rather than performance. The Platina range is built for the buyer for whom a motorcycle is a daily working tool rather than a weekend one.

Three-Wheelers and Commercial Mobility

Bajaj is the largest three-wheeler manufacturer in the world, in petrol, CNG and electric forms — the vehicles that carry passengers and goods through most Indian cities and a great many others across Africa, South Asia and Latin America.

International Business and Exports

Run through Bajaj Auto International Holdings BV and the globalbajaj.com network, exports crossed two million units in FY2026 — the best annual performance since FY2022 — with revenue at an all-time high and shipments passing 600,000 units in a single quarter.

Global Partnerships — KTM and Triumph

Bajaj began buying into Austria's KTM in 2007 and has been its largest external shareholder for years; its FY2026 annual report records the KTM acquisition. Since 2017 it has also partnered with Triumph Motorcycles to develop and build mid-capacity machines, manufactured in India for global markets.
