About Kusha Kapila
Kusha Kapila's first internet-famous creation was a middle-aged South Delhi aunty with a cigarette rasp and absolutely no filter. Billi Maasi turned up while Kapila was running content at iDiva, and she was a very specific kind of joke — a satire of Delhi's moneyed set, written by someone who had spent enough time near it to get the vowels exactly right. The character went viral. The fashion editor who had been writing other people's copy became the person everyone was watching. She took the long way there. A degree in fashion design from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, after Indraprastha College for Women in Delhi. A first job in 2013 as a fashion correspondent at a Delhi clothing firm, Apparel Online. The following year, a copywriting desk at Razorfish Neev. In 2016 she joined Times Internet as a fashion editor and then moved to iDiva as head of content — which is where the camera finally got turned around. The screen work followed quickly. In 2020 she appeared in Ghost Stories, Netflix India's horror anthology, and hosted Behensplaining, a film-review show for Netflix India. Then came Amazon miniTV's Case Toh Banta Hai, a season of Masaba Masaba, Plan A Plan B opposite Riteish Deshmukh, and a 2023 that ran three films deep: Selfiee, Sukhee and Thank You for Coming. She hosted a season of Comicstaan, turned up in Dehati Ladke and Life Hill Gayi, took a producer credit on Ishq Vishk Rebound in 2024, and in 2025 did Saali Mohabbat and Vyarth — a short film by Pankaj Dayani that she released on her own YouTube channel, where it has been watched more than nine lakh times. The audience numbers are unusual for someone whose act is essentially character comedy in two languages. Her verified Instagram account, @kushakapila, has 4.4 million followers across roughly 2,870 posts. Her YouTube channel — still carrying the line 'THAT SOUTH DELHI GIRL' — has 1.57 million subscribers and 351 videos, ranging from beauty tutorials to a video about losing weight that has crossed 2.3 million views. On X, where she has been posting since June 2011, she has about 46,000 followers and a pinned tweet about liking and then un-liking tweets to avoid 'assessment anxiety'. The industry has noticed without quite giving her the trophy yet. She was nominated at the Indian Television Academy Awards in 2022 for Best Actress in a Comedy Series (OTT) for Case Toh Banta Hai; at the Bollywood Hungama Style Icons in 2023 as Most Stylish Digital Entertainer (Female); and at the Filmfare OTT Awards in 2024 for Best Supporting Actor in a Series (Female), Drama, for Dehati Ladke. Forbes India put her on its W-Power list in 2022, and she has appeared in Vogue India, Harper's Bazaar India, Cosmopolitan and Elle. In March 2025 she added the least glamorous and possibly most interesting line to her CV: co-founder of Underneat, a shapewear and innerwear label built for Indian bodies and Indian clothes — saree shapewear, tummy tuckers, seamless innerwear. It is the kind of product a fashion-school graduate who has spent a decade getting dressed for cameras is unusually well placed to design, and she promotes it from her own bio rather than farming it out to a brand account. Her Instagram bio, characteristically, explains the whole thing better than any profile can: 'itna past mein rehti hoon, present continuous tense rehta hai.'
