At fifteen, Rohit Saraf moved to Mumbai on his own. He was not chasing his own ambition so much as finishing somebody else's: his late father had wanted him to be an actor, and the city where that happens is not Delhi. He was born in Kathmandu on 8 December 1996, into a Marwari-Nepali family that later moved back to Delhi, where he grew up. Television took him in first — Sahil Mehta in Channel V's teen drama Best Friends Forever? in 2012, then Ek Boond Ishq on Life OK and an episode of MTV Big F. The films started properly in 2016, when he played Alia Bhatt's younger brother in Dear Zindagi. The following year came something more unusual: What Will People Say, a Norwegian drama in which he played Amir, and which Norway submitted for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar at the 91st Academy Awards. Then Yash Raj's Hichki (2018) opposite Rani Mukerji, and The Sky Is Pink (2019), where he played Ishaan Chaudhary alongside Priyanka Chopra and Zaira Wasim — a performance reviewers at NDTV and Firstpost both singled out. 2020 gave him the two roles that fixed him in place. In Anurag Basu's Ludo he held his own in an ensemble with barely any dialogue. And on Netflix he became Rishi Singh Sekhawat in Mismatched, opposite Prajakta Koli — a part Raja Sen, writing in Mint Lounge, described as a "refreshingly non-alpha hero". Three seasons in, Netflix India has announced a fourth and final one. He has since worked across languages: the Tamil romantic drama Kamali From Nadukkaveri (2021) opposite Anandhi, Shatak — Hrithik Roshan's younger brother — in Vikram Vedha (2022), and a role in Mani Ratnam's Thug Life in 2025. His first lead in a Hindi film came in 2024 with Ishq Vishk Rebound as Raghav Pandit, and Dharma's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari followed in 2025. He is filming The Revolutionaries for Prime Video, and a Telugu film, Mahakali, is on the way. In 2025, Forbes Asia named him to its 30 Under 30 list. The other track is style. He won Mould Breaker (Male) at the Pinkvilla Style Icons Awards in 2023, and has been nominated three times at the Bollywood Hungama Style Icons — Most Stylish Trailblazer and Most Stylish Emerging Icon in 2023, Most Stylish Mould-Breaking Talent in 2024. He is a fixture at the GQ Best Dressed Awards, which is where most of the photographs on this page were taken. His Instagram, @rohitsaraf, has 4.6 million followers across fewer than 600 posts — an unusually low ratio for an actor of his reach, and a reasonable summary of how he works.
